Quick post from office

Have to be brief this morning - I'm posting from work because our wireless router at home died, and getting a functional replacement is a challenge. Most interesting thing from the last couple of days is that we're in the rainy season, and yesterday morning woke up to overcast skies and a drizzle rain. I've been here almost four months, and that was a first! By afternoon the sun was out again. Very windy thunderstorms last night gave way to clear skies this morning, so clear it was easy to see the Maya Mountains in the west, and the mountains of Honduras in the south.

One unusual impact of the recent rain has been in our office. There was no sill on our doorway, which leads from an exterior roofed hallway that is exposed on the east side. All the floors are tile. For two nights in a row the rain blew into the hallway, flowed under our door, with the result being a half inch of water in the far end of our office. Here's a picture of the space:

The landlord installed a sill yesterday, and drilled a hole in the wall in the exterior hallway so water would drain off instead of building up. The whole issue goes back to the earthquake - the whole building tilted slightly, about 3" from front to back, not enough to notice, until water flows under the door!

That's it for now - hopefully we'll be up and running at home again soon so I can do a longer post.

I like your office. Good thing the floors aren't hardwood! They would not have liked standing water.

Carl- Greetings. Have been remiss in writing. Just caught up on your blog last night, before going with Patti and Mikki to hear Geoff Moldaur play and sing.

Your latest notes on the ist rains reminded me of my summer visit to Water Island to my mother's place. I was there 5 weeks and had the whole place to myself and did a huge body of work, pastels, oils, pen and inks, wc's, photos. And it rained almost every day, brief squalls and thunder & lightning as well, and sometimes the same overnight. It was very humid and the skies were lovely. And everything greened up!

I leave tomorrow for a week long painting trip to Cranberry Island.
Taking mom's little Susuki- packed to the gills- and will be barged over at 2pm. Just got back from Hannaford with groceries for the trip.

I recently went to Kingsburg, Nova Scotia 5th-9th to visit with Chris and Charlotte Huntington- ostensibly to see the large collection of French art they have collected in France-over 200 works (almost half on paper)It is a helluva long drive- 650 miles one way (12 hours) but although tired, I had a wonderful time with them and they took time out to show me around the Blockhouse, Lunenberg, La Have, Riverport, Blue Rocks, The Ovens. On the way home stopped in Fredericton to see the Beaverbrook Art Gallery collection recommended by C & C.

We are finally getting some nice weather after 28 straight days of rain, drizzle and cold! Hope it holds for my trip to MDI.
Things are very slow in the art market. Have had only one sale in several months. Have decided to return to ptg and start doing smaller pics. I have almost finished a group of 11 small ptgs that began with the 8 I did up in Patten over memorial day 4 day stay with C & C.

Thanks for continuing the blog. Again apologies for not being a more frequent writer at this point.

Lots of love from me and Mikki,
Floydm
Thanks
